Port-A-Pit BBQ

The year was 1978, and all it took for Scott Skornschek was one whiff of that hickory, coal-cooking aroma and one bite of chicken to start Port-A-Pit BBQ. His high-school buddy, Dave Greco (yes, the former Tampa Mayor’s nephew), was barbecuing on the side of the road, so Scott stopped to check it out.

“I was so impressed, I wanted to get involved…I wanted to do something that people would be appreciative of,” Scott says of that moment. After first buying out the partner’s share, he soon bought Greco’s portion, too – and Scott was officially in the catering business.

While the Port-A-Pit BBQ machines are impressive and the star of the business, the real heart of the company is Scott. His passion for providing for others and his fortitude have made Port-A-Pit BBQ the reputable, excellence-driven company it is today. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a dedicated, passionate, and talented team behind you. We like to think all these elements distinguish us from the competition.
